    适用范围:INTRODUCTION Polymer concrete (PC) has been used in structural applications where strength, stiffness, durability, and ease in molding provide an advantage over other materials. Many types of reinforcement can be used with PC. This guide presents the structural uses of PC. Polymer concrete is a mixture of aggregates and resins or monomers without portland cement that hardens by polymerization after it is placed. PC was first used commercially in the 1950s in the United States in the production of synthetic marble, followed by the manufacture of architectural facing panels in the late 1950s. Beginning in the 1970s, other structural products began to appear in the market, including floor drains, utility trenches, underground utility vaults and covers, high-voltage insulators, and highway median barrier shells. These products were followed by the introduction of manhole structures and machine tool bases. By the mid-1970s, PC was used as a repair material for portland-cement concrete structures, mainly on highways and bridges. In the United States in the 1980s, chemical companies developed an increasing interest in specific materials and material properties required to produce PC. As a result, many enhancements in the polymers used for PC were developed, and resins tailor-made for PC production became available. This development continues, and important material improvements are often achieved by manufacturers. Research into the behavior of PC structural elements has been conducted at numerous research labs. Structural research has been conducted on such uses as steel-reinforced beams and panels, ballistic panels (barriers to armed assault on embassies, for instance), electric transmission poles, structural sandwich elements, building blocks, utility trenches, utility covers, and insulation panels (Fowler 1988).

Overlays are designed to minimize deterioration from repeated thermal expansion and contraction (Fowler et al. 2001). In addition to describing the characteristics of PC overlays, this guide includes chapters on surface preparation, application, quality control, and handling and safety. The information should allow the reader to select materials for a given application and may serve as the basis for the preparation of overlay specifications.

    适用范围:This test method provides data to be used in evaluating theload-carrying capacity of polymer concrete (PC) underground utilitystructures, frequently called hand holes, by full-scale testing ofthe structure. A PC underground structure includes a box, typicallywithout a bottom, and a matching cover(Fig.1). It may include an extension and, if so, testingshall be of the box and extension together. These test methods areprimarily for PC and PC/fiber-reinforced polymer compositeenclosures. They may also be used to test underground enclosures ofPortland-cement concrete or other materials. Four procedures are provided: Vertical load capacity evaluation for the enclosurecover—A concentrated load is applied to the cover toapproximate a vehicle wheel load. Vertical load capacity evaluation for enclosure walls—Aconcentrated load is applied to the box along its edge toapproximate a vehicle wheel as it passes onto or off of theassembly. Lateral load capacity evaluation for enclosure walls—Auniformly distributed load is applied to the largest box wall toapproximate the pressures resulting from earth backfill and thesurcharge of a nearby vehicle. Determination of failure loads for the three defined loadconditions as detailed in Section10.4. Each of three specimens shall be tested to the design load andcycled for each procedure. Test thethree specimens to failure using Procedure4 as given in 10.4 foreach. The design load shall be determined for testing purposes, andall safety factors related to the design load shall bereported. Ambient service temperatures affect the performance of theenclosures. These tests shall be conducted at 75 ± 10 °F (24 ± 5°C) unless another temperature is specified in the request fortesting. The paired values stated in inch-pound and SI units are usuallynot exact equivalents. Therefore, each system is to be usedindependently of the other. Combining values from the two systemsmay result in nonconformance with this test method.
